About the MESA Program at LACC
The Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program at Los Angeles City College is committed to empowering and uplifting underrepresented students in STEM by providing academic support, hands-on experiences, mentorship, and industry connections. MESA bridges the gap between education and career pathways, ensuring students have the resources and opportunities to succeed in STEM fields.
MESA goes beyond the classroom, offering students exclusive field study experiences, such as visits to SoFi Stadium, UC Irvine, and UCLA, where they engage with professionals and cutting-edge research. The program has also funded students to attend prestigious conferences like the SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) Conference, NDISTEM/SACNAS (Society of Advancement for Chicanos and Native Americans in STEM) Conference, and other national STEM events—helping students network, present research, and even secure internships.
Additionally, MESA provides tutoring in math, physics, biology, chemistry, computer science, and engineering, along with dedicated STEM counseling to guide students through academic and career decisions. The program hosts high-impact workshops like REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) workshops, student research training, leadership development, and transfer-focused workshops.
Throughout the year, MESA fosters a sense of community with events like Earth Day, Pi Day, Friendsgiving, and Cram Jams study sessions. This Spring 2025, MESA is sending students to the MESA Student Leadership Conference, and the American Chemical Society Conference, while continuing to offer research workshops, campus tours, and more opportunities for students to thrive.
