Jorge and Paola Ramos Visit LACC
Last month, Jorge and Paola Ramos were the keynote speakers for our Nick Beck Investigative Journalism Lecture Series. Throughout the discussion, Jorge reflected on his path from immigrating to the United States from Mexico to becoming one of the most recognized voices in Spanish-language journalism. Drawing on nearly four decades of experience, he shared insights from covering major political events and interviewing world leaders, highlighting the vital role of journalists in holding public officials accountable.

The conversation also explored the challenges facing modern journalism. Jorge discussed the increasing tensions between the media and political figures, emphasizing the importance of a free press and the responsibility journalists have to ask difficult questions, even in the face of criticism and opposition.

Later in the program, Paola Ramos focused on the evolving identity of Latino communities in the United States. She explained that while earlier generations were often connected through shared immigration experiences, demographic shifts and cultural changes have created a more diverse and multifaceted Latino population. As younger generations grow up with different experiences and stronger ties to American culture, concepts of identity, language, and community continue to evolve.

We would like to thank Jorge, Paola, and everyone who attended for making this a truly amazing and insightful event. Stay tuned for our next installment!
