Student Spotlight: Angel Moreno
Years after putting his education on hold, Angel Moreno finally found his way back to the dream he never gave up on.
One of nine children, Angel was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. His parents immigrated to the United States from Mexico, and education was important to him from an early age. After becoming a father at a young age, Angel left college to work and provide for his family.
But his desire to help others never disappeared.
Growing up, Angel witnessed violence and abuse in his community, experiences that inspired him to pursue a career in social work.
“I always wanted to be a social worker growing up in South Central,” Angel shared. “I always wanted to be that person who could be there for the kids.”
In 2024, Angel began rebuilding his future and eventually found his way to Los Angeles City College. As a working student and father, returning to school came with financial challenges, but support from the LACC Foundation helped ease the burden and allowed him to focus on his education.
Today, Angel is thriving at LACC and preparing to transfer to Cal State to continue pursuing a career in social work. His goal is to use his experiences to support young people facing challenges similar to those he encountered growing up.
“I’m very grateful to the donors who have helped me. Their support has made a difference in my journey.”
For Angel, LACC has provided a second chance to pursue his dream, and Foundation supporters have helped make that journey possible.
