LACC Theater Students Shine at Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival

Los Angeles City College (LACC) Theater Arts students showcased their exceptional talent and creativity at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), held in Mesa, Arizona, during the first week of the semester. Competing against universities, state schools, and community colleges from across the region, 16 students from LACC took part in rigorous competitions in acting, costume, sound, scenic, and projection design—and emerged as finalists and award winners in multiple categories.

Among the standout achievements, three LACC actors—Lonnie Jones III, Markel Sealey, and Ciclady Rodriguez—placed among the top 15 finalists out of 160 competitors for a spot at the national competition. The festival also featured workshops and performances where LACC students excelled, including two finalists in the Musical Theater and Dance Initiative.

  • Student Choice Award: Sophia Clark, August 29
  • Best Physicality in a Scene: Ciclady Rodriguez
  • Best Acting in a 10-Minute Play: Alex Bravo
