Student Parent Month at LACC
September is Student Parent Month in California, a time to recognize students who are pursuing their education while raising and supporting their families.
At Los Angeles City College, student parents are working toward degrees and certificates while raising and supporting their families. They balance coursework with child care, employment, transportation, groceries, household expenses, and the unexpected costs that are part of family life.
Even a relatively small financial setback can make it more difficult to remain enrolled and continue their education. National research underscores the challenge: among student parents who begin at public two year colleges, only 27 percent earn a degree or certificate within six years, while 62 percent leave college without earning a credential.
The Los Angeles City College Foundation helps address financial barriers that can interrupt a student’s education by providing supplemental assistance when it is needed most.
Your gift can help:
- $4,500 helps provide three months of supplemental support for a student parent family
- $1,500 helps provide one month of supplemental support for a student parent family
- $500 provides supplemental emergency assistance when an unexpected expense threatens a student’s ability to stay in school
- $250 helps provide groceries and household essentials for a student parent family
- $100 helps with transportation and other immediate needs
