Dean Hansell

Board member Dean Hansell is a senior partner at the international law firm of Hogan Lovells US LLP. He has served on a number of boards, many of them educational boards, and brings a depth and breadth of knowledge to the LACC Foundation about board governance, not-for-profit organizations, educational institutions and fund raising.

Hansell is an accomplished business, environmental and energy, and insurance trial lawyer focusing on complex litigation and class actions. He is a former prosecutor in the antitrust, marketing practices, and the environmental and energy fields. As an author, Mr. Hansell has written extensively for legal education publications and journals and has lectured both in the US and abroad on a number of legal topics.

Dean Hansell is not only dedicated to the law and his clients; he is committed to serving his community. He co-founded, headed and served on the board of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. He currently sits on the Boards of the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the Center for Public Engagement and Innovation at Northwestern University School of Law and the Board of Advisors of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. He is a former Police Commissioner of Los Angeles. He also served as President of the Board of Information Technology of the City of Los Angeles and President and Commissioner of the Los Angeles Fire & Police Pension Board. He is a former Trustee of Denison University and current serves on Denison’s Board of Advisors and is a Trustee Fellow. He is also a former member of the Board of the California Bar Foundation.

He graduated cum laude from Denison University where he was student body president and a member of Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. and a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.
