Earth Day celebrated at Los Angeles City College’s Community Garden
Los Angeles City College celebrated Earth Day at its urban farming community garden on April 22-23.
On Monday, volunteers from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) visited the campus to work on the community garden. They cleared the weeds from part of the space making it ready for planting.
On Tuesday, the campus hosted its Earth Day Celebration. As well as a diverse array of fun activities, 30 posterboards created by students provided a variety of information relating to the environment. Free food and giveaways were also available to attendees. Everyone was encouraged to add their artistic imprint on two large mural canvases.
The City’s Garden was seeded by Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The space offers students the ability to learn and practice gardening skills directly on campus. The garden gives a respite from a busy campus in the middle of the city, providing organic fruits and vegetables.
